Speakers’ Bios:

 

Julie V. Philley, MD, is a professor of medicine and Executive Vice President of Health Affairs at the Health Science Center at the University of Texas at Tyler in Tyler, TX. She is board certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, and pulmonary disease. She moved to Tyler in 2012 to continue her research efforts in nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease and also received a $2 million National Institutes of Health grant for convalescent plasma research. A native East Texan, Dr. Philley now leads UT Tyler health related endeavors, including the formation of a new medical school.

 

 

 

 

Brigham Willis, MD, is the newly appointed founding dean of the school of medicine at the Health Science Center at UT Tyler. A longtime educator, scholar, and leader in academic medicine, “Brig” earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and then completed his residency at Children’s Hospital and Research Center, Oakland. Dr. Willis finished his training in a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, later serving as the Associate Fellowship Director for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern. Prior to his recent move to Tyler, Dr. Willis served as a professor of pediatrics and the senior associate dean of medical education at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine.
